One of the most historical and cultural hotspots in the Region for centuries. Taggia is a charming and relaxing Medieval villageof artistic interest. It is a true hidden gem of the Italian Riviera! The ancient Dominican Convent dating back to the 15th century is a place of peace and meditation with its cloistered courtyard. It still houses unique artworks and showcases rare religious Ligurian architecture with polyptichs from the mid XV century and lots more….
A pleasant walk along the relaxing “street of Lords” will lead you to the 15th century Braki fountain, and to the Sanctuary of Madonna of Miracles, a treasure trove of Baroque art pieces, rich in stuccos and frescoes that will surprise you.
In the hub of the authentic medieval village called “Pantan”, with its ancient families’ coats of arms and fortified portals, we’ll visit the old, characteristic “Botteghe” that still sell the hand-made products of the Argentina Valley. Canestrelli – local salted biscuits made with extra virgin olive oil – borage grissini and other sweet or savoury bakery specialties made with the local extra-virgin olive oil are an unexpected surprise.
During the guided tour you will also taste “Taggiasca” olives and the extra virgin olive at a local oil mill.
This freshly squeezed extra virgin olive or EVO oil of a golden light straw-yellow color, is pleasantly fruity in taste, and has a delicate hint of sweetness. Its unique and smooth taste makes it is an ideal accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes. But there is more: the olives from the Taggia area are crushed in local “frantoi” within 24 hours of harvesting so the finished product hasn’t lost any of the more than 200 therapeutic properties researchers are discovering on an ongoing basis.
When you visit Taggia you will keep the memory of this cosy village in your heart, and you will feel a recurrent feeling of nostalgia when you are back home!
Optional: We can organize a good lunch or dinner at a local “trattoria” where you can taste the best ravioli and parpaiui -local hand made pasta- of the Riviera.
It is possible to organize a special wine or beer tasting in the Medieval village.
