To truly discover the authentic Liguria, take a journey from the flavours of the sea to those of the backcountry, to the small towns clinging to the slopes of the Valle Argentina.
The alpine villages are hives of houses with slate rooftops, narrow alleyways, fortified walls, and ancient churches. Among them is Triora, an important Medieval village well known because of the sad episode of a witch trial in the late 1500s. Here you can feel the presence of witches in every corner of the village, and taste and to experience the witch culture. Local shops sell black witches’ hats and witch-themed handicrafts, while the Ethnographic Museum is mainly dedicated to witchcraft, guarding the memories of bygone days.
In the Argentina Valley, local farmers produce raw milk cheeses and lovely marmalades made with wild fruit from the forest or fresh vegetables. Triora was awarded the “Orange Flag”, a certificate of quality that rewards a varied choice of tourism opportunities and environmental friendliness.
The story continues in other villages with Mediterranean flavours descending directly from the Middle Ages. Badalucco and Taggia, two hidden gems of the Italian Riviera, will surprise you with their
precious historical evidence, and with the charm of ancient traditions that are still carefully preserved.
