Duration: 4 hours
An absolute must-see place of the Riviera dei Fiori: the Nervia Valley is one of the loveliest parts of Liguria’s hinterland. This is the domain of Rossese di Dolceacqua, one of Italy’s finest wines and one of Italy’s best kept secrets.
Dominated by the historical castle, Dolceacqua is the ancient village, which the Impressionist painter Claude Monet immortalized on canvas. “The place is superb, there is a bridge that is a jewel of lightness”, he wrote in his diary.
We’ll leave San Remo in the morning and we’ll drive along the coastline, where we can enjoy a stunning view on the hidden bays of Ospedaletti and Bordighera, two elegant towns between San Remo and Ventimiglia – the border between Italy and France.
The tour includes the guided tour of Dolceacqua, the visit of the Doria Castle, a nice walk on the worldwide famous bridge painted by Claude Monet. At the end of the tour we stop at the local winery in the Medieval village for a wine tasting — 2 local wines – Rossese di Dolceacqua and a local white wine — pairing them with local specialties.
Then we drive back to Sanremo, passing through another path, and we enjoy the view of ancient mansions and wonderful gardens on both sides. Here we’ll see the landscapes painted by Monet, a sort of forest of olive groves, palm trees, Mediterranean flowers, and local aromas. An unforgettable and unique Monet’s experience, discovering the places Claude Monet loved.
This tour may be a half day tour (if we visit only Dolceacqua), but it can also be a full day tour if we add the visit of Bordighera and of the historical villas and gardens of this elegant town.
Optional: lunch at a typical Agriturismo, where you can taste the ancient recipes of the nonnas of this wonderful valley, made with the fresh vegetables from local kitchen gardens.
